A build-up of marine fouling can lead to increased drag, resulting in a detrimental impact on a vessel's hydrodynamic performance and hence the relationship between speed, power performance, and fuel consumption. Zinc anodes are the protection you need for your boat's metallic parts (shafts, props, rudders, etc.). These anodes are placed over and connected to the metallic parts of your boat that need protection from electrolysis-caused corrosion. Your anode should be replaced once per year as a minimum however, you should check it regularly and replace it once it has corroded to 45-50% of its original size.

The condition of the surface of the propeller influences its efficiency. The surface of a propeller will become less smooth due to strain and cavitation damage, whereas growth will start to develop over time. Most small dings or bends in a propeller can be repaired for a reasonable price. A dinged, bent or chipped propeller won't work as it used to and can even affect the overall engine performance. If your damage includes bites or chunks out of the blade, you should consider a new propeller.
